unsaid
“So much of what we live goes on inside - - -
The diaries of grief, the tongue-tied aches
Of unacknowledged love are no less real.
For having passed unsaid. What we conceal
Is always more than what we dare confide.
Think of the letters that we write our dead.”
- Unsaid (from Interrogations At Noon), Dana Gioia
what a lovely way to burn
A year that saw Brendan McCarthy doing an amped-up cover of Steve Ditko by way of a Spiderman-Dr.Strange team-up is not a bad one for comics at all, much as it was the same year Nemesis and other assorted vainglories were loosed upon us. Just proves how Brendan can save us from anything. Even from Mark Millar.

Beating a path to my own forthcoming surge of yearend listmaking, despite fluctuating server malfunction, and taking a page from Richard Bolisay but picking only five plus one picked despite the potential nepotism, as I haven’t been scrounging about and I find the whole MTV aesthetic a little annoying to begin with. I do regret having little by way of Asian work but here be my favorite...

Day 07: A Song That Reminds You of a Certain Event
Clark Gable, The Postal Service
In 2008, I attempted to shoot my first film. Direktor’s Cut was about a girl, Divine, spun off at first from someone I knew before but who’s become so vague and ephemeral and fugitive I’mnot sure if it’s still her or a little bit of every someone else that came after. Once had a love and...

“ …I never felt magic crazy as this, I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea, I never held emotion in the palm of my hand, or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree, but now you’re here, bright in my northern sky… “ (Northern Sky, Nick Drake) Who are we to say the damage that caught up with Nick Drake had to do with who he’s singing this song to or if...

Slowly but surely posterizing the rest of the 2010 run of the Tioseco-Bohinc Film Series that never made it to poster form starting with Christopher Gozum’s amazing Anacbanua. The future of the series is still up in the air. Let’s hope it resumes in 2011. Plans are afoot.

It’s as if I fell in love only I’ve forgotten how it feels out of how long it’s been since the last time that happened with someone new and I’m not sure if I really did fall in love or if I’m confusing it with some other symptom of attraction, like maybe some heightened, terribly obstinate strain of infatuation that mimics the actual sensation of falling in love the...
The verses near the end are taken from Nobyembre 23, a poem by my friend and also fellow film writer and programmer Richard Bolisay. I am a huge fan and am almost profoundly thankful for the use of his words as it added so much more to the short than I expected.
The title of the poem ,of course, refers to the date when the Maguindanao Massacre took place. Having already thanked my other...
ambush of ghosts
“Try to win and suit your needs, speak out sometimes but try to win” (REM, Perfect Circle) “Sometimes a good exit is all you can ask for” (William “Dead”Kennedy, Firecracker) Sean Stewart’s Firecracker has a weariness in its bones from all the past that bears down on it - - -an overlap of memories, of ghosts actual and metaphoric. It’s a weariness...
